Joystik hits hard, but not your wallet
The Joystik is one of the latest stick vapes to hit the market, aiming to capture the ball vape hype. The idea is brilliant – put a little ball heater in the cap to super-smack your herbs anywhere you want. While it’s been done several times before, the Joystick is more flavorful and more affordable than anything we’ve come across. At $108, we like it better than some other stick vapes that cost more than twice as much!
Surprising flavor
The Joystik’s flavor rings louder than other stick vapes due to its cooling unit. Inside the stem is a glass tube with glass balls that not only cool the vapor, but also preserve the flavor better than any other material they could have used. The vapor is comfy and tasty!
Not trying to be the best, but damn…
Bede from VICES told us out of the gate that he wasn’t trying to make the best vape out there with the Joystik. He drew inspiration from other baller stick vapes on the market. He wanted to bring a kickass product to Australia for less money than they could get anywhere else. And he did. However, the performance and price are going to vault this vape into some “best of” conversations.
Joystik highlights from the livestream
Here are some observations and conclusions from our tests:
- 3mm ruby corundum balls in the heater, glass cooling balls in the stem
- Silicone body keeps heat away from hands
- Click accuracy is excellent when you aim the torch at the beveled band
- Audible-only click (no visual indicator like the Tempest sight gauge)
- Induction heater compatible, but depth needs dialing in – torch recommended for now
- Cools down faster than the Tempest 2 – noticeably quicker reset
- Flavor is purer than expected – glass balls and glass tube make a real difference
- At $100, nothing else on the US market at this price hits like this
- Two thumbs up from both Troy and Jerry
Key technique tips
- Heat the beveled band on the cap, not the ball zone directly
- Cover the airflow carb fully for the richest, most flavorful hit
- Rotate the ball cap to open the airflow notches – easy to miss, big difference
